Incident At Twenty-One Mile (Trevanian)- This book is a little bit older than the other ones picked, being published in 1998, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t give it a try! The novel takes place in the American West, and has two storylines running through it that intertwine at the end. Part of the story follows a young man as he stops in a town that was once a hotspot during the rush of migration to California, but now holds about twenty locals. The second part of the story starts in a jail cell with a criminal so evil his victims wish he would have killed them. This mystery is definitely unique and a classic.
Mr.Mercedes (Stephen King)- This book is by the infamous author Stephen King, also known as King of Mystery Novels. This is one his most praised and well known books that he has written. It has even been transferred into a television show. The novel follows Hodges, a retired detective who contemplates suicide, before hearing about an old unsolved case of his resurfacing. “Mr. Mercedes” drives through a crowd of people and ends up killing eight people and injuring fifteen. With the killer bringing attention to the public of his need to strike again, will Hodges be able to solve the case in time?
Burning Blue (Paul Griffin)- After Nicole Castro a popular sixteen year old gets sprayed with acid in her New Jersey high school a male protagonist named Jay Nazarro emerges. Jay wants to figure out who would have done this to Nicole. This is the classic who-done-it narrative with a modern twist.
Temptation(R.L. Stine)- Things can spiral out of control pretty quickly when you have thirsty vampires on the hunt for human blood. Again we have another story about vampires like the Twilight Saga, except this time from the well known author R.L. Stine. Many have probably read or seen Goosebumps as a child, but this is a level up as a young adult novel.
